Julie Giles - Figuratively Speaking

‘Barley-field path’ 50x40cms oil on canvas

I use my eyes. I paint to meditate on what I see and ultimately to celebrate what I  see.

My paintings begin outside in front of my subject, painting directly from observation. The image gradually evolves as the world before me changes. The light changes  and clouds, people, birds, dogs, vehicles and so on come and go. The image can  resolve further when I take the canvas into the studio. In more recent year the  tapestries of wild flowers, painted in situ, have been a focus, particularly on our  Suffolk shingle beaches.
