Illustration, Titillation and Rampant Sexualities in late 19th Century Britain
The undercover oddness of Pre-Raphaelite painting, with its pussy footing around sex, receives a jolt around 1890. Artists coming from an amoral position as Aesthetes, use print media to present disturbing complex visions around desire. Fiona FitzGerald will examine this shift in connection with artists Aubrey Beardsley, Ricketts and Shannon, and the writer, Oscar Wilde.
This talk relates to the Aubrey Beardsley Exhibition at Tate Britain
