HALESWORTH HERITAGE OPEN WEEKEND
Saturday 21st September 2019 - 10:00 am
The Cut was converted out of the dilapidated New Cut Maltings between 2000 and 2007 by a local arts charity called New Cut Arts. A Maltings had existed on this site since the early C19th although it's present architectural appearance dates from the end of the Victorian era. The building has retained many of the original Maltings features during its sympathetic restoration. These include the two original ‘steeps’, typical maltings windows, cast-iron pillars, low ceilings, original doors, original maltings tiles and the remains of the original fire-places. Information panels, film/slide shows and maltings artefacts (both original and specially created) are on permanent display in the MALT Exhibition Room on the 2nd Floor.
The Café, Box Office and MALT Exhibition are open between these hours – entry to the MALT Exhibition is free.
On Sunday there will be 4 X 60 minute guided tours of the building (highlighting preserved evidence of the original maltings) at 10.30 / 12.00 / 1.30 / 3.00 led by Simon Raven of the MALT Project. Tours will include an illustrated/film talk in the theatre about the building in its historical and heritage context, followed by a guided walk around the building including a visit to the MALT Exhibition. Tours are free but should be pre-booked at The Cut Box Office – maximum number is 10 per group.
