Adapted from a novel by Penelope Fitzgerald, narrated by Julie Christie, and set in 1950s Suffolk where Florence, a young widow, plans to open a bookshop.  It soon becomes evident not everyone in the village welcomes the new venture and that Florence has a fight on her hands.  Fortunately a reclusive bibliophile and an enthusiastic school girl are both determined to help her defeat the enemy.
