Queens are certainly the darlings of cinema at the moment and this film sports two for the price of one!  Each surrounded by a throng of duplicitous and powerful men, the struggle between Mary Stuart and her cousin Elizabeth takes on the quality of a duel between two lonely women who, in other circumstances, may well have been friends.  David Tennant is excellent as the vitriolic John Knox, arch enemy of Mary, whom he refers to as the 'Queen Strumpet'.
