Dir: Francois Truffaut, 1980, France, 102 mins.
With Catherine Deneuve, Gerard Depardieu, Jean Poiret, Heinz Bennent.
The winner of ten Cesar Awards.  Lucas Steiner is the jewish owner of the Montparnasse Theatre in Paris during the occupation.  When he is forced into hiding his gentile wife takes over and employs a womanising actor to play the lead in their next play.  Deneuve and Depardieu deliver magnificent performances against the backdrop of a city in constant fear of the Nazis but where its citizens still attend the theatre if only to keep warm.
