Broad Roots Presents

SPOKEN WORD AND MUSIC DAY

Sunday 7th May 2017 - 2:00 pm

An eclectic treat of spoken word and music on Sunday 7 May.  Starting at 2.00pm, the event will climax with a special evening performance by one of the UK’s best cutting-edge performance poets, Attila the Stockbroker.

First on is John’s Ward’s magical, narrative poem ‘The Iron Bridge’, the tale of an East Coast town, whose characters and history interweave backwards and forwards through the centuries, read by renowned storyteller, Andy Jennings.

Poet and musician, Martin Newell,  follows with his epic ‘The Song of the Waterlily’, describing the building and proving of a traditional

Essex deep-sea fishing smack, “from tree to sea”, accompanied with original music and unusual instrumentation from The Hosepipe Band.   After a break, during which refreshments can be purchased in the café bar, the evening session will open with songs that reflect the themes of the day from the John Ward Trio.  Finally, hang on to your seats for the force of nature that is Attila the Stockbroker, sure to bring the day to an exuberant end.  After 38 years Attila is even more fired up than ever, and he has good reason, because the world is going nuts.
